“It allowed me to work as an individual on a project that would otherwise require a full production team.”

Tell us about yourself, and what brings you to competitions like this.

I'm Mohamed Gamal, a junior architect and computational designer in the complex geometries team at Dar (Sidara), based in Egypt.

What did you design, and what were you trying to communicate?

This project seeks to express the life of Vindstad as its residents feel it, not only as tourists see it, by building memories and shared moments that bring them together. Its form is integrated with nature, so that each day offers everyone a new and lovely moment. I imagined it as a place I would choose for a date, and a place I would always want to return to. These memories culminate in the return of the sun: at the exact spot where its first ray appears, residents and tourists gather together to welcome it.

How did you approach the timeframe, and where did Gendo fit into the process?

I spent almost 75% of my time on the design thinking process, searching for the right idea, and left the remaining production phase to Gendo. For me, this is the most powerful and underrated advantage of AI: it allowed me to work as an individual on a project that would otherwise require a full production team. The concept was mine, and Gendo handled the rest.

    04

How has your relationship with Gendo developed?

I usually use Gendo for editing my renders.

    05

What does the recognition mean to you, and what would you do differently next time?

I believe I made the right choices as an individual participant, though there is always room for improvement.

    06

Anything else you would like to share about GENDO 48?

    Thanks for the opportunity.
